In Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus tells a story of ten virgins who journey to meet a bridegroom:
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
“ ‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
The foolish women had to leave to prepare for the bridegroom at the last minute whereas the wise women were prepared and able to join the bridegroom. Jesus is the bridegroom and all of humanity is the bride, His church, or His inheritance. However, not every human will earn the opportunity to reign with Christ for approximately 1,000 years (Revelations 20:6).
The Savior upon His return will know those of us who are working towards righteousness and actively preparing ourselves and building our relationship with Him.
As we all have heard time and time again, life is a journey. Yet, have you ever asked yourself or someone else where the journey is taking you?
There are very real destinations for each human soul: heaven or hell. A healthy relationship with Christ not only leads to blessings, good health, and honor, but it leads to time with Christ after the rapture.
We are living a journey that will decide the fate of our eternal souls.
As Wise Proverb 31 Women, it is imperative that we equip ourselves with the necessary oil to keep our lamps lit (our souls connected to Christ).
How do we equip our souls to remain connected to Christ?
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6: 14-17
Truth, righteousness, and peace are elements of the fruit of the Spirit given to us when we accept Christ as our Savior, and it grows within us as we strengthen our belief, obedience, and dependence on the Lord (Galatians 5:22). The shield of faith is our continuous conversation with Christ throughout our journey and is usually practiced through prayer and time alone with God. The helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit that are mentioned in the verse are the Word or Bible.
Consistently studying the Word and spending time with God will lead us down the path to heaven.
There were ten virgins; however, only five of them attended the banquet with the bridegroom.
